How is the Money Used?
To begin with, it is important to know that the work done by the Trust Committee is on a purely voluntary basis.
Despite the fact that we put thousands of hours each year into our work it is all done on our own free time and the Trust has no paid employees. The only money which finds its way to the committee is that incurred by travelling, but aside from this every last penny goes into caring for the birds or into our conservation projects or education programme.
Veterinary fees : 26% : A hugely fluctuating amount. In one year we spent over £500 on a single bird!
Travelling expenses : 10% : Travelling to shows, lectures and transporting injured birds.
Insurance : 10% : This has now become a major expense. In 1996 it was included within a 3% total for sundries.
Leaflets & advertising : 20% : Getting the message out and letting people know how to deal with injured birds and how to get help.
Repairs & renewals : 16% :Repairing and extending our network of rehabilitation aviaries
Stock for resale : 9% : A necessary expense. In 2006 sales generated 20% of our income!
Postage & stationery : 5% : You can help to reduce this! Let us know if you’d like to get your newsletter on line
Miscellaneous : 4% : Hire of room for AGM, Show passes & membership etc.
